Comparative Approaches to Data Journalism During Global Crises (Article)

The research titled “Comparative Approaches to Data Journalism During Global Crises: A Cross-National Analysis of Russia, the United States, Italy, and Türkiye,” conducted jointly with Prof. Dr. Özhan Tingöy, has been published in the Yeni Medya.

During global crises such as the Covid-19 pandemic, data journalism plays a vital role in public communication and political accountability. This study provides a comparative analysis of data journalism practices in Russia, the United States, Italy, and Türkiye by examining Covid-19–related news articles published in online newspapers during the peak mortality phase.

Focusing on data visualizations, interactivity, source types, transparency, and data originality, the research employs structured content analysis and intercoder reliability testing using Cohen’s Kappa. The findings highlight distinct national patterns shaped by structural, political, and technological conditions across different media systems.
